Qimen Eight Deities: Reference Table

The eight deities are the deity plate and speak of the atmosphere: the hidden drivers, mental state and aura. Meanings, pairs, common readings and placement rules.

The deities: the unseen layer

PlateAnswers
Earth plateWhat the foundation of the matter is
Heaven plate (stars)What the objective situation is
Human plate (gates)What a person can do
Deity plate (deities)The hidden drivers, mental state and atmosphere

The deities read two things most accurately: mindset, meaning what the person is thinking and the opponent's attitude; and hidden circumstances, the factors not on the table and who is quietly pushing. Stars and gates speak of the matter; the deities speak of the atmosphere.

How the deities are placed

  • Zhi Fu starts at the palace of the Zhi Fu star (the deity follows the star).
  • The other seven follow the order in the table above.
  • Forward in yang dun, backward in yin dun.
  • The path follows the Luo Shu numeric order (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9); center 5 lodges in Kun 2, so they land in only eight palaces.
