Your year pillar changes at the solar term Start of Spring (立春), not Chinese New Year — a common point of confusion even among casual readers. Your month pillar follows the 24 solar terms, not the calendar month, so it's computed from precise astronomical data (to the second) rather than a lookup table. Your day pillar follows the traditional sexagenary cycle with the day boundary at 23:00, and your hour pillar is derived from your day stem using the classical "Five Rats" method.
If you provide your birth city, the calculation also applies a true solar time correction — adjusting for your longitude relative to your time zone's standard meridian — since BaZi is traditionally based on true solar time, not civil clock time.
